This Crack was brought to you by someone else, Some guy in a news group did most
of the work. I just made it easier to get by zipping it up into one nice packa
ge and creating the batch file.
I agree that Quicktax is a money hog, but they do make nice software so buy
at least one! Or better yet buy Taxwiz and try them both... Good software
is hard to find, selling it is the way they can keep producing it every year, T
axwiz gives you unlimited while QuickTax gives you only 5! I will buy
TaxWiz this year because I want to support the UN-Microsoft types that mak
e a great product and don't soak you for money!
Long live the WordPerfect's and TaxWiz's that make great, affordabl
e, software for the rest of us!!!
So I give Microsoft a dirty look!!! >8/
ReadME.txt:
A simple way to activate quicktax 2001.
When you buy QuickTax it comes with a 14 digit installation
key. You need this key to be able to install it. The first
time you run QuickTax it "examines" your hardware and generate
s
a 7 digit number. You then phone Intuit and provide them with
your 14 digit install key AND your generated 7 digit number.
They then provide you with an 11 digit "activation" key
generated from your two numbers. You can't call again and use
the same 14 digit install key.
Here's the trick: when Quicktax "examines" your hardware t
o
generate the 7 digit number the only thing it looks at is the
volume ID of your 'C' drive. (The xxxx-xx&
#120;x number, not the
label. You can see yours by typing VOL at the C:\> prompt
in DOS mode).
To activate a copy of QuickTax WITHOUT contacting Intuit, you
need the install key of someone who bought QuickTax, the 11
digit "activation key" he obtained when he phoned Intuit, and
the volume ID of HIS 'C' partition.
Here's what you need:
1A12-1302 <= volume ID - you must change your 'C
39;
partition to this for the other numbers
to work.
86973517353517 <= install key, 'used' already, so don
39;t try
phoning it in - you don't need to.
37521065588 <= activation key - given out by Intuit
Here's how you do it:
1. By using the enclosed Batch file named Batch.exe included
in this folder you can skip STEP 2. (Double Click BATCH.BAT)
2. Change the volume ID of the 'C' partition on your hardrive
to the one given above. You do this with the program
volumeid.exe (read VOL.txt for more info)
2. Install the program using the install key above. When it
asks tell it your computer is not connected to the internet
(you can change that later).
3. Run the program the first time and choose to 'activate by
phone' when it asks. It will pop up a box where you enter
the 'activation key' given above. It will work because the
activation key matches the install key and the serial number
of your hard drive.
NOTE: Use care when changing the volume ID. The program that
does this WON'T run from DOS, and your operating system will
likely lock up as soon as the volume ID is changed. I know
XP gets really unhappy. Just make sure everything else is
shut down first with no disk accesses going on when you run
the volumeid program and be ready to reboot.
OK, one final bit of good news. If you need more than the 5
returns you are limited to, here's what to do. When you save
your first return QuickTax creates, in your c:\windows dir,
a file called rcpd.d11 (that's D one one, not DLL). If you
just delete this file you can create another 5 returns. You
can keep doing this forever.
You're welcome!

VolID.txt:
While WinNT/2K and Windows 9x's built-in Label utility lets you cha
nge the labels of disk volumes, it does not provide any means for changing volum
e ids. This utiltity, Volumeid, allows you to change the ids of FAT and NTFS dis
ks (floppies or hard drives) on both Windows NT/2K and Windows 9x.
Usage: volumeid <driveletter:> xxxx-xx
0;x
Note that changes on NTFS volumes won't be visible until the next reboo
t. In addition, you should shut down any applications you have running before ch
anging a volume id. NT may become confused and think that the media (disk) has c
hanged after a FAT volume id has changed and pop up messages indicating that you
should reinsert the original disk (!). It may then fail the disk requests of ap
plications using those drives.
